Plant & Personalize It: Building a Living Lab

Help me give my students eco-friendly plant labels for our native garden, along with an engraving pen kit, so students can label plants, deepening their connection to nature and enhancing their learning in our outdoor classroom!

My Project

I am fortunate to teach a group of curious, creative, and eager 5th and 6th grade students who love hands-on learning.

This project will provide them with the opportunity to connect to nature, deepen their understanding of plants, and enhance their creativity in our outdoor classroom.

The eco-friendly bamboo plant labels and engraving pen kit will allow students to personalize and label plants in our native garden. This hands-on experience will them about the importance of labeling and the role plants play in our ecosystem. By engraving their own labels, students will engage with the plants on a deeper level, making learning both fun and meaningful.

Additionally, I’m asking for plant trays so each student can plant, grow, and care for their own plants to contribute to our garden. This will give them a tangible connection to the science of plant growth and an understanding of how plants impact our environment.

The goal of this project is to engage my students in real-world learning, fostering their creativity and scientific curiosity while teaching them about sustainability and ecology. Through this project, they will not only gain a deeper understanding of biology but also feel empowered by their contributions to our school’s garden.

What makes my students special is their enthusiasm and willingness to learn. They are excited about this project and eager to connect their classroom lessons to the natural world, making this experience a lasting and valuable part of their education.
