My Project
My second graders are fun, smart, and kind, but they lack self-efficacy at the beginning of the year.
I have learned that they grow a lot in independence and confidence when I give them tools to organize their own learning supports and when they set their own goals.
Please help my students get their year off to a great start!
Students need color-coded portfolios to organize their work in progress AND to maintain a small database of anchor charts and checklists to help them improve their writing and tackle math problems independently. Red folders are for reading, orange folders are for writing, blue folders are for math, and green folders are for science. Students love having the ability to find and organize their work quickly!
Students need binders to track their goals and progress toward their goals. We will use the information in the binders to discuss how to grow as readers, writers, and mathematicians. Students love these individual conferences with an adult who cares about them and sees their potential!
Students need color-coded tabs to help them mark current reading selections, the pages in the journal where they have brainstormed for their next writing project, and the math anchor charts that remind them of how to read the clock or compare measurements. They have so much to learn and finding information quickly maximizes time for learning! My students love the feeling of success when they can answer their own questions!
