My students need colored pencils, folders, binding spirals and covers, pencil cases, sharpeners, and a crimping tool to be prepared at the beginning of the school year.

My Students
Our classroom is an open and inviting environment designed to foster independent student learning. My students are thirsty for new materials to continue their education.
I teach in a public urban multi-age Montessori school with fifty-five first through fifth-grade students.
My students learn through small group and individual lessons, research and inquiry, and by going out into our community. My students come from all different backgrounds racially and socioeconomically and live in an urban setting. My co-teacher and I are piloting a combined Montessori 1st-6th grade classroom.
My students are involved in social justice and environmental conscious movements taking a stand and trying to better the world. Our students work hard with the resources they have to follow their passions and find meaning in their education.
My Project
In our Montessori classroom, organization is key. Materials for lessons are located all over the room and available for students to take out as work. Students are responsible for their own cubby space as well, which houses their planner, notebooks, and folders.
Our students receive small group lessons which they track in their planners; these supplies will help us create new planners for the next school year.
We will use the binding covers, crimping tool and spirals to make their new planners, which will then be located in their cubbies.
To help with classroom organization and student independence, for next year each student will have their own small pencil case with a set of colored pencils and a sharpener to keep in their cubby. In our Montessori classroom, the colors of the pencils have different meanings in their grammar or literacy works, mathematics work, and in coding their lesson planners. Our hope is that by giving each student the same supplies at the beginning of the year, we will encourage students to be more independent and also to make sure that supplies are equitable for all students.
