Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

To help my students become true "Planet Protectors," I plan to use a combination of engaging books, hands-on projects, and science-themed materials that bring environmental education to life.

Environmental books will spark curiosity and build foundational knowledge.

These stories and nonfiction texts will introduce students to real-world environmental issues like pollution, climate change, endangered species, and sustainability in an age-appropriate way. Through read-alouds, group discussions, and independent reading, students will explore how their actions impact the Earth.

Environmental and engineering projects will allow students to become problem-solvers. From designing pollution filters to building water conservation models, students will engage in project-based learning that mirrors the work of real environmental engineers. These projects will help develop critical thinking, teamwork, and creativity—all while exploring practical ways to protect our planet.

Science-related materials and science-themed toys will turn our classroom into an exciting, interactive learning environment. Tools like magnifying glasses, compost kits, circuits, and eco-friendly building sets will support STEM learning and allow students to experiment, tinker, and make discoveries. These materials help students see science as fun, relevant, and powerful.

Together, these resources will help students not only understand environmental science but also feel empowered to take action. By learning through reading, doing, and playing, they’ll see that they can make a difference—starting in our classroom and extending into the world.
