My Students

We always toss around the quote that students "learn best by doing." However, many times students have been forced to be passive learners, just receiving information. Now with the exciting maker's space movement, students will be challenged to actually plan, make, and change their ideas.

My students are active learners who want to use their imagination and learn new skills.

We have students from urban, suburban, and rural areas. Some students are have special needs, while other students are classified as gifted. Despite the "labels", all of our students come together in classes to learn and be successful. Over 50% of our students live in poverty, but we believe that every student has a right to learn. All of our students are excited by the possibility of a maker's space.

My Project

Students will be able to use these materials in our maker space in almost any way they choose. Students will have the chance to plan their own projects, get assistance, create their project, and then change it if they want to. We already have some basic materials in place but we would love to be able to create sculptures with a 3D Doodler pen, make a lamp with the lighting kit, build a model of the country with clay and building supplies. Students can also use the tape, markers, and air-dry clay in unexpected ways. Though this are student-led projects, teachers will be there to help students every step of the way.

We want to show our students that their creativity and interest can pave the way to their future and possible careers.

We do not know what the next ten or 20 years will look like. We do know that the skills that students will learn from this maker space will enhance their lives in many ways. Students will learn team work, perseverance, critical thinking skills, and creativity just to start with! Thank you for reading about our dream and our project!
