This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am privileged to work in a high school where students have the drive and determination to succeed. Despite hardship and limited access, they attend school every day, they complete their homework, engage in volunteer opportunities at the Orthopaedic Institute for Children, our partner, and overall, they LEARN.

This year, working with 9th graders has revealed a new realization to me- that the excessive use of online sources brings down students' ability to keep organized and stay on tasks.

Be it the lack of support, technological knowledge, or even time to access online sources, these unknown factors make it difficult for a teacher to understand why students miss deadlines.

A physical copy of a planner can tremendously improve students' organizational skills. It would be a great resource for parents, too, who always ask me during parent conferences how they can help their children stay on track. This question would be easily answered if I show their child's planner, complete with assignments and check marks for completion.
