Help me give my students the ability plan, design and create their projects with a versatile Cricut Maker. This machine allows students to develop a blueprint, cut various types of material (vinyl, fabric, lightweight wood, leather) and create!
Our students come from different backgrounds and attend a Title I school district in Eastern Connecticut. Over 70% students in our school district are eligible for free or reduced lunch. Components of students' lives often leads to high absenteeism. As middle school students, they are full of energy and curiosity when encountering a topic or activity of high interest.
It is critical that students maintain engagement in their learning as they often struggle with balancing so many other distracting factors than school.
My goal for each year is to create student engagement opportunities in the our library and to help foster excitement about school each day by engaging them in meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
Students love to use various materials when designing academic projects. The Cricut Maker will enhance the array of choices for these students. They will able to cut and use material such as leather, lightweight wood, fabric, vinyl, paper and more.
Many students have limited exposure to these materials and for many, this may be their first design experience with fabric or leather using technology.
It will be exciting to see what designs they develop and create within our Library's Makerspace Center! This Cricut Maker will be accessible to all classrooms (Science, Math, Language Arts, Social Studies and Unified Arts) through the Makerspace Center.
