Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach second grade in a Colorado public school that has a 94% free or reduced lunch population. My students are really hard-working and come to school everyday eager to learn!

ECE-1st grade classrooms in our district are provided with classroom rugs. In second grade, we spend just as much time on the floor - but instead of having a comfy place to sit and learn, my students are "bummed" that they have to sit on the cold, hard floor! We do many read-alouds, writing lessons, and community meetings on the floor. Students are more likely to focus and participate when their comfort needs are met and when they have their own space. Without this, there are more behavior interruptions and distractions.

A large classroom rug is the perfect solution! The rug we are requesting has a square for each student. This will help students know exactly where they need to sit and allow each student to have their own comfortable space.

You can make it possible for my students to experience greater enjoyment and achievement while participating in whole-group lessons on the carpet. Thank for considering my students.
