it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Place value understanding is an understanding of our base-ten number system. Mathematicians need many different opportunities to engage in developing their understanding of place value. In younger elementary grades this includes working with numbers within 20, then 100. In upper elementary grades, this includes an understanding of decimal place values.
Textbooks strive to teach students about place value, but without the hands-on exploration or real-life contexts, oftentimes it remains confusing to children.
The materials selected such as counters, money, place value coins, etc. for this project are designed to give learners a chance to engage in place-value exploration. They will count high numbers and then consider the composition of numbers. For example, 235 is the same as 2 hundreds, three tens, and five ones. It's also the same as 23 tens and 5 ones.
