This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have a special place in my heart, and play a big role in my life. They are they reason I still teach, and why I will continue to teach this population. My students are amazing young adults, who struggle with managing their emotions due to troubled pasts, their home environments, and other factors. Despite all of their challenges, both behaviroally and academically they shine with the right type of support, and expectations. All my students want to do well, but they believe they cannot because they have been told that their whole lives.

What I love most about my students, is their tenancity.

Everyday they get up, and come to school knowing that today may not be an easy day. Many things are difficult for my students (social interactions, decision making, grade level academics, handling conflict, etc). However, they want to do better, and strive to be the person we believe them to be.

My Project

My upperclassmen are learning workplace skills in our student run business. Recently, we launched a pizza delivery program on our campus where students take orders, prep/cook the pizza, then deliver it on campus. We would a commercial pizza oven to create an actual work environment.

It is doing so well that we need to upgrade our oven.

Business is not only doing well, but students are getting to learn so many valuable real-world skills. Currently, we have a typical kitchen oven. A new oven would expand what we are able to teach our students, and transfer those skills to an actual pizza restaurant after graduation.
