Pipetting Our Way to a Colorful Science Career

Help me give my students a kit to practice their micropipetting skills, ten small fixed-volume micropipets, one large variable-volume micropipette, and replacement micropipet tips.

My Students

Seeing students excited about science has been the greatest gift since joining DonorsChoose.org. Your donations make hands-on learning and inclusion a reality in my classroom!

We are a rural, low-income school district surrounded by farmland, which many students live and work on.

Many of my students are tactile or kinesthetic learners who enjoy being able to get out of their desks, move around, work with their hands, experiment, and create things. I also have a unique group of learners with special needs who often require modified instruction to achieve success in our science class.

My Project

Lab skills are critically important to Biology and Forensic Science students wanting to go into a science-related career field. These supplies will allow my students to learn and master how to use both fixed-volume and variable-volume micropipettes. Students will use the Micropipette Basics kit to create colorful cards to practice loading and unloading their micropipet. The extra pipet tips will ensure there is no cross-contamination during lab and help emphasize to students the importance of lab safety protocols. Micropipetting is an important skill used in many science labs to handle small amounts of biological evidence, such as DNA. Students will learn about DNA technology and get a lot of practice before we apply these skills to our gel electrophoresis lab.

My students new skills will help prepare them for both college science labs and future science careers.
