My Students

My students are in grades K to 5. They are incredibly funny and kindhearted. They have a love for learning and have such unique abilities and personalities. They are bursting with energy every single day. My students are experts in their fields from trains to space to princess. Did I mention they have disabilities?

In my room we see the "Able not the Label".

My students attend a center based program for students with Significant Support Needs. They are preparing themselves for lives as successful adults by working on their reading, writing, math, communication, sign language, cooking, life skills, and much more.

We have a great time working with a wide variety of families and service providers to create an inclusive environment tailored to each student's unique needs and passions. We believe school can be a fun and rewarding experience for everyone.

My Project

I am hoping to create an inclusive sensory space for my students to use when they are in need of a break and a place to refocus before coming back to class.

I currently have the physical room but am looking for goodies to fill it and help it become relaxing.

I am planning on using a variety of sensory needs including physical (using the weighted sleeping bag and Theraputty), visual (using the Time Timer Plus ), and auditory (with the noise canceling headphones).

I am taking a whole student approach to emotional regulation. By focusing on their physical needs and environment during their times of crisis, I hope to be able to help students gain the skills they need to be successful in the real-world.
