My students need fabric, stuffing and sewing supplies to make beautiful personalized photo pillows for children within our community with physical and mental disabilities.
Words cannot describe the joy on each child's face when they saw themselves in front of their favorite place on Earth superimposed on a pillow. In our previous Donor's Choose Grant we given the materials to make and present pillows to children who lost their homes and possessions in Super Storm Sand
The students at our school come from very diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic family situations.
A large percent of our students are enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program. Many families are still trying to get their lives back to normal after Super Storm Sandy ravaged our community. Our school strives to provide all that we can to our students and families to help them succeed and live life to their fullest potential.
My Project
The funding for this project will be used to purchase the necessary materials needed to create photo pillows. We are asking for, photo fabric and pillow stuffing, sewing materials and ink. This project will empower two different groups of students in two different ways. The students in my class will be learning valuable technology and photography skills needed to function in our modern technological world. They will also receive the experience of reaching out and helping those who are less fortunate than they are. The students who are receiving the pillows face physical and developmental disabilities. We hope that these pillows will give them a sense of happiness and security.
Last year we were able to create and distribute 100 pillows to students within our school.
This year we would like to expand our project to the community to bring happiness to children in other schools. Our students will learn the importance of giving and feel satisfaction when they realize that it is far better to give than to receive.
