Piggy Bank Math--Show Me the Money!!

My students need a play cash register, Money Bingo cards, money stamps, books, puzzles, and activity kits.

My Students

Do you remember when your older brother or sister would trick you with the bigger coin switch-a-roo?! A nickel for a dime because it is bigger, or a penny for a dime? Well I want to change that for my students!

My students are from an inner city public school in Ohio.

We have a great community surrounding our school with a lot of parent volunteers. They love to learn and will enjoy working with new materials! Our Kindergarteners enjoy learning new concepts and will be eager to learn about the values associated with money. These will be important skills as I teach them how to be responsible with their money.

My Project

I am requesting several types of games and money manipulatives. My Kindergarteners will love learning about the values of money with a play cash register, Money Bingo cards, and Money stamps. They will also enjoy learning through literature about money and math. All of these skills will help them gain a valuable interest and responsibility with their money, possibly to help with allowances at home, saving and purchasing snacks at school, or just not getting tricked by older siblings!

By funding this project, I will be able to provide many different Math/Money centers for my students to participate in.

The children will be able to learn a concept about money and then have the opportunity to practice and relate it to real life! It is so important to give children more than worksheets to learn new skills, especially my Kindergarteners! It is equally important for them to know that money doesn't grow on trees!
