Picturing Transcendentalism

Help me give my students an easy to read and understand look into Transcendentalism Literature. These books will give my students a foundation of Transcendentalism, so that they can explore more difficult Transcendental pieces.

My Project

Reading levels vary greatly in the high school classroom. Motivation also varies greatly between students. These easy to read picture books demonstrate the transcendental philosophy of Henry David Thoreau perfectly. These books will help to engage students with low motivation. They will also help students who struggle with complex readings build background knowledge in order to read and better comprehend the more complex writings of transcendental authors.

I will use these books in small groups.

Then each group will present to the class the transcendental beliefs they find in the book. They will also identify the theme of the book and support their finding with textual evidence. This is an exercise that they will later repeat with a much more complex piece of literature. These books will serve as the first step of scaffolding to ensuring my students' success.
