My Students
"Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?" These words do not completely make sense to students until they see the words for themselves. However, just watching the video of the play does not give them experience with language. Graphic Novels combine the two.
My students are 9th graders at a charter school in Colorado.
We have a classical curriculum that can be difficult for students to access, but is important for them to learn. Each year, we read "Romeo and Juliet." The themes and action in this classic play are inviting and interesting to students, but they are sometimes turned off by Shakespeare's figurative language.
My Project
This set of graphic novels will help my students love and appreciate "Romeo and Juliet" as much as I do. This version includes the complete original text paired with beautiful graphic panels that illustrate the events. This will allow them to access this classic language in a way that helps them understand it completely.
Every year, thousands of high schoolers learn to hate Shakespeare because they are forced to read it without support.
I refuse to let this happen in my classroom, and your donation shows that you also want to keep Shakespeare's language alive in our schools.
