This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher at a Title I school in Virginia, I have a classroom full of students from various backgrounds and socioeconomic groups. They are hard-working, eager to learn, and full of energy. Though my students work together as a team, they each have their own abilities, interests, and talents.
My students love learning new things, especially when they can participate in hands-on activities.
They also enjoy being able to use technology, work in small groups, or create songs and poems about the current skills we are working on.
My Project
My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy-we read together, read with partners, and read independently. We were recently able to add over 40 books to our classroom library; most of these were chapter books. I would love to add more picture books to our library to help my reluctant readers feel more confident.
Having picture books in my classroom will encourage struggling readers, as well as capture the interest of stronger readers.
These books will reach all of the readers in my classroom. Picture books will enrich their reading experiences and encourage them to read more. The more my students read, the stronger their reading skills will be. My desire is to give them as many opportunities as I can to increase their interest and abilities in reading. Having these books in my classroom is one way I can create positive reading experiences.
