My Students

"Where's the school camera?" A question that is asked often in our class. While sometimes the answer is that it is in the office, free to borrow, often times it is already in use. My students need a dedicated class camera to create stop motion videos, portraits and other digital art.

Our students are in a K-12 Alternative School setting.

As a result of a streamlined budget, art is one of the few electives that is offered. My students enjoy photography and it would be a gift to have another camera they could use in class. We have one DSLR for the building and often times other teachers or classes need it. That makes it difficult to do longer projects such as stop motion videos and it also limits the number of students who can work on a project.

My Project

If we are able to get a dedicated class camera, students will be able to participate in creating a variety of projects. By having access to a DSLR, they will be able to concentrate on developing their art and digital skills in creating stop motion videos instead of spending their time either trying to locate a camera or compromising their creative vision by using a poor quality camera. Stop motion videos take an incredible amount of time and design and by having a quality camera, students will be able to feel a true sense of pride in their finished product. They will also be able to learn portrait photography and set up class photo shoots. These activities will foster a true sense of community within our school as students work together to create these projects.

The dedicated camera will be integral in helping students create high quality visual stories. Students will be able to work together to create their own class photos, videos, and stop motion films.
