FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. O.'s classroom raised $308
This project is fully funded
I am a high school biology teacher of ten years at Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School in Bamberg, SC. Our school enrollment is about 500 with 70% of our district's students on free or reduced lunch. Our rural town's population is 3,800 with only a few industrial business. I am writing this proposal in hopes of receiving the funds to purchase a digital camera for my classroom.
We have one digital camera in our school. It is to be shared among 40 teachers, the yearbook staff, newspaper staff, media center, and guidance office. My computer and printer are photo compatible, therefore I have access to printing the pictures immediately in my classroom.
I take pictures of my students as they are participating in hands-on learning experiences. Before they come in the next day, I have their pictures printed and displayed on the walls and in the hall, or I have put them together in a slide show and have them scrolling on my projector screen when they come in my class.
Through borrowing student cameras, I have been able to photograph my students when they extract and spool their own DNA, dissect eyes, hearts, frogs, and pigs, plant and harvest vegetables and flowers in our class garden, watch chicken eggs hatch, and make their own slime polymers. My students also travel to the local hospital, our state house in Columbia, a local art gallery, a local manufacturing plant, and we also have guest speakers each semester. I also frequently share the pictures with our local newspaper.
The students that I teach don't often have anyone else that takes pictures of them. When they get to see the pictures of themselves, they beam from ear to ear with pride. They also get to relive the experience that was photographed and they share with their friends and parents what they were doing in the pictures, which reinforces the objectives and standards that we cover.
I would greatly appreciate the funding for being able to purchase a digital camera for MY classroom. Because of our situation, too many WONDERful moments pass not captured on film. Please consider my proposal so that we can continue to Picture the Wonders of Science!
