My Students

My class consists of approximately 20% girls and 80% boys. They are mostly from Hispanic and Black ethnic groups and lower-income communities. There is a zeal for learning despite the circumstances that they are faced with. Some have emotional, social, and/or academic circumstances that are limiting. The ESL and students with special academic needs receive services in order to assist them in the learning process.

These students need to be prepared to compete in an ever-changing​ world that is technology-driven and requires individuals who can represent any organization with dignity.

They want to be successful and are challenged to be successful.

My Project

Students are gifted in many ways and I am amazed at the creative genius of my students as it relates to visual arts. Very often, my students approach me with a picture they have created and ask my opinion. There is nothing I can say other than, "It is beautiful."

Students will use the art supplies to create visual art pieces that express their feelings and emotions.

The supplies will be used in their regular day school and during the afterschool program. During the day, students will be allowed a period in which they will draw a picture and explain the meaning of the picture. In the afterschool program, the supplies will be used to explain the elements of art and provide the students with an opportunity to grow in their knowledge of art.
