Picture Perfect

My students need a photo printer (with extra paper and ink) to update our classroom and enhance our learning environment through fantastic visuals.

My Students

We are a pretty good looking class, but no one can see that! Our classroom needs a photo printer to not only show off our great looks, but also to encourage early reading skills by creating visual labels with real pictures of items around the classroom.

We are a preschool classroom filled with twenty energetic, ready to learn three-year-olds!

At our public charter school, our students are getting prepared to move on to high-performing high schools and, hopefully, college. Our students come from high-risk communities and are now given an early start to prepare for careers as life-long learners and successful community members. Our parents are enthusiastic and have given our students this opportunity by enrolling them in this school, as well as, preparing and working with their students at home to ensure that they can excel.

My Project

While we can label bins, boxes, and objects with written labels, our students are three and four-years-old and just beginning to read. Our students need visual aides and cues to advance their early reading skills. If we can take and print pictures of objects that are in those bins and boxes, our students would be able to relate the written label to the picture label. A photo printer would also enable our classroom to become more personal. We could display our students' pictures alongside their artwork; we could make projects to send home to their parents; or we could exhibit a visual display of what we are learning about. Our students will be able to see the process of taking the picture, uploading it to a computer, and printing it out in front of their eyes. This will also help to advance our goal of making our students technological tikes!

Again, we are a great looking class and are ready to show it off in all possible ways!

We want to share this with the rest of our school community by displaying our picture perfect students around the school and classroom. We also want to get our students to advance their early reading skills by connecting the written labels with the visual labels. Our classroom will be the best looking classroom in D.C. with a photo printer!
