When you think about a first grade classroom, what do you picture? I picture a classroom full of eager learners ready to be engaged with technology.
I teach a very diverse group of first graders in a suburban community in Texas.
My students come from so many diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged homes. They are very sweet children who just need an engaging experience to motivate and encourage their learning. Half of my students are identified as English being their second language. Also, one third of my class has been identified as 'at-risk' in reading. I want all my students to succeed in school as well as in their lives, and this project will aid in breaking the language barrier and assist them in our goal to excel! It will also give them hands on experiences with technology that they may never get in their lives.
My Project
It would be a "picture perfect" moment to see my students using a digital camera at school. The pictures my students take with this camera could be used for so many subjects that we learn. They would be incredible pieces of writing inspiration as well. The digital camera would also be used on field trips as well as school events and projects. My students would also be able to use the headphones in our daily literacy stations. This would provide a individual learning experience for each child.

A digital camera would help my students get even more excited about learning than they already are. They would be so inspired to learn by using the pictures they have taken. The headphones would enable the students to use MP3 players and digital readers individually. With your help, we can capture a lifelong interest in learning!
