Picture Perfect Communication: Enhancing Preschool Vocabulary with Visual Supports
Help me give my students the chance to communicate with their classmates. My goal is to help my preschoolers be effective communication partners which may be by building their vocabulary or using a visual communication book.

My Project
In preschool, language acquisition is crucial as it lays the foundation for all future learning. However, many of my special education students face challenges in expressing themselves and understanding new vocabulary. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of my preschool students are attending school and engaging with peers for the first time.
To address these communication challenges, I am requesting funding for a collection of vocabulary-building tools, including picture cards, interactive storybooks, and communication boards.
These items will serve as essential resources in helping my students connect words with images, making abstract concepts more tangible and accessible.
These tools will also empower my special education students to become communication partners with their peers. By having access to visual supports, students who may struggle with verbal communication will have alternative ways to express themselves and participate in classroom activities.
My students are an extraordinary group of young learners, each with their unique strengths and challenges. They are curious, eager to learn, and full of potential. Despite their speech and language challenges they show incredible resilience and enthusiasm for learning. What makes them truly special is their determination to communicate and connect with others, even when words are hard to find. With the right tools and support, I am confident that they will thrive, both academically and socially.
