Imagine creating a book about a class and not being able to take pictures of the students or creating a PowerPoint but not being able to include images of things you have around you. My students do not have access to cameras of their own, and they would be thrilled to get an opportunity to be photographers.
My students come from high poverty homes.
We are a small school with not a lot of funds and fundraising is not an option since the parents do not have extra money. Their use of technology only happens at school. Providing the students with a camera would give them the opportunity to use something they may not have at home.
My Project
With a digital camera students will get the opportunity to take pictures. Something they will never experience at home. We can then use those pictures for so many projects. We can make books, PowerPoint's, posters, brochures, and even liven up the decor of the school. They will learn how to use a camera and how to manipulate the pictures once they are on the computer.
My students will now have the same opportunity as students at a more affluent school.
They will understand what a jpeg is and how to use it. This will give my students experience that will help them with 21st century learning skills. They will finally be able to use something that their more affluent counterparts already have access to.
