My Students
We are starting a brand new school in Cleveland that is centered on the International Baccalaureate curriculum. Our students come from all over Cleveland and represent a dynamic mix of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. The students, however, have one characteristic that truly stands out: their love and eagerness for learning.
We are working on developing and securing new books and technology for our brand new school's library.
Our brand new school needed to start our library from scratch which can be a blessing but also a large challenge. We need to make sure our students have access to the books and technology they need to make their international education truly accessible to them.
My Project
We are opening a brand new school library and we need high-interest library book titles for students to encourage students to increase their reading and improve their literacy. In our local libraries, I have seen that the graphic novel sections of the teen sections are HUGE! Since our students' reading levels, on average, tend to be lower than grade level, having a good sized graphic novel selection could be a huge key to helping our students read more.
The hope of our school is that by providing a library that focuses on high-interest titles, we will bring more students into the library and increase their willingness to read.
At our school, a huge focus is to make reading a habit. Every teacher has pledged to read visibly around the school and we are issuing reading challenges for our students that are put together by all stakeholders in which students can earn badges. We hope these titles can help us on our way to this goal!
