Picture Books to Build Diverse and Inclusive Learning!
Help me give my students and my classroom social justice picture books. These picture books will help to discuss diversity, inclusion, and antiracism in my classroom. We need these conversations now more than ever!

My Students
Most of my students are known as a geographical exception. Their parents opted to send their children to my school, instead of the school located where they live. They live in a rough part of our island and they can be a little rough themselves.
Despite it all they still have so much love to give and this is what continues to amaze me about them everyday.
These students have gone through so much in their young lives. I want to give the students at my school more resources and opportunities. They deserve an outlet and an opportunity to show the world just how amazing they truly are.
As a school we don't have a vast amount of funds to help support our students and our classrooms. My students have shown tremendous growth and are constantly wanting to learn, read, and experience more. I want the resources to help me provide the continuous, exciting learning that my students deserve!
My Project
For young students, picture books open up their worlds to new points of view, experiences, and ideas. As teachers we use picture books constantly to teach our students about important ideas. Picture books are a crucial part of discussion and learning in elementary classrooms.
Now more than ever these conversations need to be happening around acceptance, diversity, and inclusion.
These picture books will be the opening to create conversations around diversity, inclusion, and antiracism in my first grade classroom. It is my goal to create a classroom that is diverse and inclusive, while also creating safe space for my students to have real conversations about tough topics like discrimination and racism. My young students deserve these learning opportunities and important conversations!
