Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love the curiosity and kindness of my students at ALHS, especially those in the special education classes who visit the library every two weeks. They bring a unique perspective to teaching and literacy, and it’s important that the books we provide reflect their experiences and celebrate the diversity of the world around them.

The picture books I’m requesting will depict diverse, multicultural characters and families, as well as promote positive mental health choices.

These books will help my students see themselves and others in the stories they read, fostering empathy, inclusivity, and self-acceptance. Many of these titles will address important topics like emotional well-being, making positive choices, and navigating life’s challenges in a way that’s accessible and engaging.

These books will also benefit the entire school community. Picture books, with their clear messages and engaging illustrations, are a popular choice for high school students to check out and share with their younger siblings. By offering a diverse collection of picture books, we create a bridge between home and school, promoting literacy and positive mental health in both settings.

What makes my students special is their openness to learning and their genuine care for others. These books will help them grow emotionally and socially, allowing them to see themselves reflected in the literature and to feel empowered in making positive mental health choices. My goal is to create an inclusive library that supports all students on their learning journeys.
