My Project
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America. It's also a fun, social and friendly team sport. The rules seem confusing at first but the game is easy for beginners to learn. It can develop into a fast-paced, competitive game. It's easy to get started and hard to stop playing once you get into it. There are many benefits of the sport. It appeals to players at any skill level and nearly any socioeconomic level. Pickleball allows for guided discovery where students can play without too much intervention from adults.
I am a special education teacher in an alternative public high school looking to co-teach a pickleball class with a physical education teacher.
We just need the pickleball equipment to make this teaching dream happen. Our school is situated across the street from a park with four pickleball courts with lines but no nets. With your donation we can not only get nets but also paddles and balls to bring this game to our students.
Our students struggle with school attendance. Our hope is that through this pickleball class, we can build a team of young people more committed to school and each other. We hope that this pickleball class will incentivize students to show up to school more regularly and feel connected and accountable to their teammates.
New York City public schools have faced massive budget cuts this year and with your help we can fund the outdoor pickleball balls, paddles, net and other items for a pickleball program at our school.
