My Project
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America. Over the last few years we have been teaching pickleball as a six weeks unit at our middle school. We have spent some money to purchase paddles, balls, and nets. However, the nets and equipment we have are strictly for indoor use, which limits our ability to instruct large groups.We would love to be able to provide this sport for more of our students. Therefore we are in need of some outdoor pickleball equipment. With the limited space we have inside our new gym we can only have about five courts set up at a time, this means a maximum of 20 students can participate. We would love to add the outdoor nets in order to allow us to get our participation numbers up to 40 or 50 students per class.
There is no greater satisfaction than allowing a student to experience a new activity for the first time, and seeing the joy and excitement on their face as they develop the skills necessary to be active and successful.
We pride ourselves in exposing our students to non-traditional sports and athletic experiences here at RS Middle. This grant will allow us to further enhance student experiences and allow them to learn atypical activities in the middle school PE environment. Keeping students active, while empowering them to pursue new experiences, is what drives our lesson planning each year.
