This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember when you were in middle school and you got to take piano lab as a class? My students don't have the opportunity to learn the piano in or out of school and so many of them dream of playing!

We are a Title 1, inner-city school located in Southern Connecticut.

We have grades PreK-8 in our building and many of our students are English language learners. We have a very supportive staff and administration for the arts, but we are constricted by our budget. I try my best to give my students all the opportunities that can be afforded to them and I often spend money out of my own pocket.

My Project

Every year, I have students beg me to teach them how to play the piano. The older students love learning the ukuleles and many have asked if we could include piano into our curriculum. I grew up having a piano lab in my school and there's no reason why my students shouldn't have that as well! These keyboards are small and portable, so they will be easy to set up. We will be able to use desktops to practice on. With 28 of these keyboards, every student will be able to independently practice his or her skill without having to share or be disrupted.

I have worked in my building for 6 years now and I have always dreamed of having a piano lab so that my students can experience the beauty of the instrument!

These keyboards will open up a whole new area of musical knowledge for my kiddos! Please help us make a piano lab a reality in our music class!
