Help me give my students the gift of music! We have students that take piano lessons at the school but do not have the ability to practice at home because they do not have a keyboard or piano.
I teach at a smaller school that has a large free and reduced price lunch population. We seek to prepare each and every student for college, even if they do not intend to go. At least we know that if they change their mind at any point in their life, they are set. Currently, we are preparing for a hybrid or distance learning situation and want to be as effective as possible!
My Project
My husband (who also works at the school I work at) and I have spent the summer giving piano lessons to students. A common theme develops every year that students want to play piano, but they do not have a keyboard or piano to practice on. We want to build up a small supply of keyboards that students could borrow to practice from home or use a study room to practice while at school. This would greatly enhance their piano playing abilities and give them a musical outlet when they are at home. The music program teaches how to play the piano by notes, but my husband also does improvisation classes that are popular as he can quickly help a student who has never played before and help them write music using the concept of chords. However, practice brings success.
