My Students
I have the honor to teach some of the most talented outgoing and engaged young people through the LPSS Talented program. To succeed in studying their instruments, my students are called daily to face their own limitations and overcome them to reach their potential. They are critical thinkers, problem solvers, risk takers sensitive to beauty and understand the interdependent relationship they have when they perform with others.
Truly, in mastering a musical instrument students develop the skills it takes to be a citizen in a highly functioning community.
My students work throughout the year with an acoustic piano which brings a timeless presence and acoustic accountability to their practice. But it also requires maintenance and upkeep in our Louisiana heat and humidity.
My Project
My Talented Music curriculum provides students a chance prepare a solo piece to be performed with piano accompaniment. In the weeks leading up to the performance, a professional pianist prepares the piano accompaniment parts, organizes rehearsals with each student at their lesson in their school and performs with them at a dignified venue like the Acadiana Center for the Arts or a new high school black box theatre.
A Piano Accompanist truly bridges the gap for my students individual pursuit to performing a graded piece of music at a professional level in the community arts space.
It is in these solo recital opportunities that my young musicians of various backgrounds can realize their potential with the dignity of a professional musician.
