My students just finished studying the unit on "Measuring Circles" in math class. They learned to use pi to calculate the area and circumference of a circle, and also identified pi as the constant of proportionality when finding the circumference of a circle. An estimate students used to represent pi was 3.14, and the connection was made between pi and March 14 (3.14), with the celebration on that day.
My students thrive on extrinsic motivation, and would welcome a pair of pi socks to celebrate pi day on March 14.
All of my students receive special education services, and we want to get them more engaged in learning mathematics. As a result, we have to constantly come up with ideas to make learning fun, interesting and/or memorable for them. Your contribution to this project will go a long way in building their love for math, and also cause other students to become curious about pi, when they see my students wearing their pi socks on pi day.
