Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a Title 1 school with limited access to computers in our classroom. I teach close to 95 students and 50% of them are 2 grade levels below performance levels in Math and it's quite difficult for them to grow and excel without the proper Math foundation and basics needed to support them.
Many live with grandparents (on fixed incomes), guardians, or single mothers, who explain that the scholars only access to technology at home, is on the adults cell phones.
100% of our scholars receive free lunch. After Hurricane Harvey, several have been misplaced and a few moved away.
My Project
It would be fantastic to have a technology workstation in our classroom so the scholars can utilize APPS like Math Tappers to help them make sense of multiplication and division of whole numbers and then support their developing fluency while maintaining accuracy.
Our department has limited resources and dedicated classroom technology just isn't available.
The Chromebooks will allow our scholars to access Math websites, activities and programs necessary for them to close their achievement gap and build their confidence and self esteem.
The technology workstation will expand the walls of our traditional classroom and provide immediate access to a world that's currently nonexistent for them.
