My Students
My students are energetic and excited about learning. They are becoming real readers, writers, and mathematicians, but sometimes they have trouble staying focused and on task. They need all the support they can get.
I teach at a small rural school that has survived numerous funding cuts in the last five years.
Many students receive assistance through the free and reduced lunch program and a take-home nutrition program so they have food for the weekend. We teachers, support staff, administration, and community give students all the help we can, but they need and deserve even more.
My Project
Jean Blaydes says, "Physical activity grows brain cells, and that cerebellum research tells us, "What makes us move, makes us think." It is proven that movement improves learning. These exercise balls will allow the students the freedom to roll, bounce, or shimmy around. Movement will help the brain stay on task. Fatigue affects your thinking and the ability to retain information. Adding these exercise balls to my classroom will get the students energized and pumped up about their education which will in turn enhance performance and get the students excited about their education. Physio balls are a natural way to calm those that get overexcited throughout the day as well. It will help improve my student's attention span and their ability to retain the information presented. Most importantly, students will begin to see that the classroom is a safe and fun place to be. This will also increase attendance rates and performance. What a great benefit for these students!
