My Project
Our high school serves a large minority population. It is a school full of dedicated students who deserve a richer, more extensive physics experience.
The requested materials will allow my students to perform labs related to Waves, Light, and Sound.
This would include a Sound lab. In this lab where students use the tuning forks in conjunction with a microphone to study waveforms.
A resonance lab, where students verify the speed of sound by submerging the resonance tube in water, in the graduated cylinder, and varying the length of the closed tube until it matches the frequency of a tuning fork.
The Refraction of Light Lab uses glass plates, cork boards, and pins to measure the refraction of light through the glass graphically, using a compass and protractor.
These concepts are an important part of our State Core Curriculum and deserve a strong laboratory experience. The funding requested allows for 8 stations of each lab.
