My Students

Confucius said, "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand." I want my students to have more opportunities for hands-on learning this year so they can truly understand the concepts I am presenting.

I have 160 inquisitive 8th grade students who are eager to learn Physics, Astronomy and Chemistry, how it relates to them and the world around them.

They are a very diverse group of young teenagers, with varied ethnicity, backgrounds, interests, aspirations, hopes and dreams. They are like sponges, soaking up new ideas with boundless curiosity and wonder. We have students of all levels, from advanced to far below basic in English/language arts and math.

My Project

These materials will provide my students with several opportunities to engage in hands-on inquiry based learning. They will investigate the speed in which different materials fall through a copper tube and how the angle of an inclined plane affects the speed of a toy car. The hand generators will show both generation of electricity as well as storage, the Ebonite Rods will show electron transfer and the alarm in a bell jar will show that sound waves require a medium like air to travel. Students will find the volume and mass of each of the diverse materials kit to learn about the density of objects.

My students need materials for hands-on activities to get them excited about pursuing STEM careers.

The United States is experiencing a dearth in college graduates in all STEM careers - Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Help me give my students the opportunity to see the myriad of opportunities that are in store for them!
