This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One of the best parts of learning calculus is understanding its connection to science. There is no more obvious connection than between the physics of motion and the mathematics of calculus to study it.
With these tools, I will be able to address the age-old question: "Why does learning this math matter?" With the motion detectors, we will be able to truly embody the physical phenomena underlying complex calculus.
Students will use the motion detectors in a variety of ways. Initially, they will create different parent functions using the graphs generated by their movements. Then, later on in the course, they will use the motion detectors to predict derivatives of functions, connecting rates of change with a function itself.
We will use the chargers to ensure equity in my classroom. There are times that my students, given their life circumstances (family obligations, split homes, etc.) are not able to come with their Chromebooks charged. The chargers will allow me to support all students to participate.
