My Students
I have started a new journey in my life at a newly opened school. There is so much things I want to do and teach to my students. My students are very curious and eager to explore new territories when it comes to my gym. Please help me and my students by supplying us with physical education tools.
My students are predominantly Hispanics, along with a mixture of Bengali, Arabic, Tibetan, Polish, Chinese, Pakistani, and African American.
The parents in the community are mostly hard working immigrants who spent most of their days at their jobs. They work hard to make sure their children gets the best opportunities in life. Whenever they're in my gym I see their eyes light up with excitement and their laughter bellows across the room. Nothing drives me to teach these children more than their genuine curious faces.
As of now, all of my students are under the age of 5. They are at the critical ages of development both in mind and body. Everything that they're experiencing right now will dramatically affect the way they act, and perceive things in life. This is the perfect time to shape their minds and lifestyle.
My Project
These items are the bare essentials of any physical education class. Hundreds of activities can be created with these simple equipment. The cones and poly spots help organize the gymnasium so that the children can easily navigate through it. Also, it turns an ordinary gymnasium into its own world of adventures. The equipment are color coded so students can associate groups, teams, and tasks with a certain color.
Young students need all the stimulation they can get from their environment in order to learn.
For adults, it's easy to be able to stand in a certain place when told so without demonstration. But for young children it can be a challenging task. That black line you told them to stand on can be any of the 5 black lines in the gym. That's why they need place markers (cones, spots) that they can see in order to know where to go or be. The cone/spot in a way is speaking to them. It's telling them "hey, I'm the same color as the object you're holding, and this is where the teacher wants you to stand". These equipment are visual feedback for the children.
As you can see my list does not include equipment that are specific to a certain sport. Each equipment have multiple purposes. They can be use for any activity. My list does not include many equipment, just the essentials. But this small list has a price tag that I as a teacher cannot afford without having to make the decision to choose between this or rent. Please help me build a solid foundation for the children's development with these simple but crucial equipment.
