Our 7th grade Science students are inquisitive and bright! They love learning about Science in hands-on ways and investigating answers to questions they have about the world around them. We love watching their eyes light up during labs after they finally figure out a challenging topic because they have something tangible to hold and manipulate. This school year, we have focused on social distancing in the classroom and limiting our use of shared supplies in our department. This has limited us in the number of activities our students can participate in that have that hands-on factor they love so much. We hope if our project is funded, we will have enough supplies for each 7th-grade science student at Sequoyah MS to have their own materials.
My Project
Students will be participating in a physical and chemical change lab as part of our Matter unit. Each student will be given their own supplies. Completion of this lab will help students understand the Law of Conservation of Matter during a hands-on experience. Physical Science standards are often hard for our students to conceptualize, so performing labs in the classroom help the lightbulb turn on for many of them! They will be able to see a chemical reaction happen before their eyes, instead of just reading about it in a textbook!
