Help me give my students tablets to encourage literacy in physical education.
Working in a low-income school, many of my students have an increased need for scaffolds in order to meet their learning goals.
I want my gym to be a place that fosters learning for all students. I seek to help my them become the best version of themselves in the gym, in the classroom, and out in the world—to positively impact the “whole child.”
According to the National Literacy Institute, approximately 40% of students across the nation cannot read at a basic level.
At the fourth grade level, this number jumps to 70% for those living in poverty, or in low-income homes. My students deserve opportunities for success regardless of their living/financial situation, and that begins with literacy.
These materials will help me to create and display instructions/examples using videos and still-images alongside key words and phrases. The lamination sheets will help me to create a long-lasting “word wall” for each unit so that students can see our cues and vocabulary words displayed with an image each day. The tablets will also be incredibly helpful as I attempt to translate instructions and skill-related concepts for ELL students.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
