Photojournalists: Beginning Their Journey

Help me give my students a true experience as photojournalists. The Canon EOS Rebel takes professional quality pictures. The extra EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Lens will allow the yearbook staff to get up close pictures at various events.

My Students

My middle school yearbook staff is made up of 6, 7, and 8 graders. Each one is eager, intelligent and a fun young scholar. They were willing to go through the application process the year before as 5th, 6th and 7th graders to show their academic skills, such as caption writing, editing, and creativitiy.

These staff members not only have the skills but also the desire to do the hard work it takes to make a yearbook their peers will enjoy.

My Project

During yearbook, members learn to tell stories through pictures, so our goal is to be successful photojournalists. I would like for my staff to have confidence and be proud of the pictures they produce for their yearbook. This is not always possible with the point-and-shoot cameras we have now. Especially with such a young staff with little or no experience in photography. I want them to have more ownership of their yearbook by providing more high-quality images they have taken themselves.

With this donation, my young, aspiring photographers can actually take more pictures that are "worthy" of being in their yearbook and no longer have to depend on me to be the main photographer.

Canon is a durable brand that should last for several years, so this donation will help several staffs to come.
