Phonological Awareness and Phonics

Help me give my students quality, hands-on resources such as word-building mats, magnetic wands, markers, highlighters, etc. to use while learning the basic skills needed for reading.

My Project

Most children pick up on phonological awareness naturally. However, some students struggle and need direct instruction and practice in order to acquire the necessary skills needed to build a strong foundation for learning. Recognizing and working with sounds in words is key for later reading and writing success as phonological awareness sets the stage for decoding and encoding. Students will use the activity cards, writing utensils, and other manipulatives as they use pictures to identify sounds in words and then transfer those sounds into writing.

As a literacy coach and reading interventionist, supporting students and teachers with reading instruction is my top priority.

These resources will help me support students throughout my building who are struggling with phonological awareness, and phonemic. I can also use the resources to model strategies that teachers can use with their own students.
