My Project
Our students are working on building a strong foundation in Phonics. By learning the rules of the English language, the students will be better equipped to read and write with success. Having the chance to make this work more exciting increases engagement.
Phonics doesn't have to be boring-with your help!
We will use the mirrors to look closely at the way sounds are formed with our mouth. Do you know the difference between the formation of the vowels in these words: pen, pin? They're very close but when looking in the mirror we can see differences in lips, tongue and teeth placement! The kids love this and it helps them be more aware when spelling and writing.
Crayons help us to bring our spelling and writing to life. Adding color helps students code the different letter combinations, syllables, and grammar features. We color code sentences to indicate nouns, verbs, and details. We also color code verbs, consonants, suffixes, prefixes, etc. This is fun and it is beneficial to reading and spelling.
Playdough lets students explore letter formation in an exciting, dynamic manner. Who doesn't love playdough!? Finally, the chapter books on this list include characters in which our students can see themselves. These chapter books will motivate and encourage students to grow as readers and writers!
