This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My multilingual students are such amazing children. They are eager to learn and work hard to gain the skills they need to read and write. Being a second language learner can be challenging, frustrating and even cause a fear of embarrassment. Whenever we are going to work on something that may be hard to the students, I make sure to empower them and let them know that they can do anything. Our class motto is, “ We Got This!”.

As a teacher, my priority is to bring as many tools as I can to the table.The UFLI manual will help me to differentiate and support our curriculum to teach phonics in a systematic way.

The Secret Stories cards and trifolds will help my students connect to concepts that can be difficult to understand in an independent and small group setting.

I have seen how learning the Secret Stories has helped students to feel successful while both reading and writing. The stories not only encourage my students when learning, they gain the confidence to speak to others while also practicing their listening comprehension.

Please help me to give my second language students additional tools to differentiate their learning through a systematic scope and sequence supported by a Multi-sensory Phonics Instruction Rooted in the Science of Reading.
