My Project
As a special education teacher, I work with students with a variety of disabilities, many of whom struggle with reading and spelling. We use a phonics program called Spire to build reading and spelling skills through building specific phonics skills.
Since beginning this program, I have watched student reading abilities skyrocket, with many students reading multiple grade levels ahead of where they once were.
Not only has Spire yielded positive results, but it is also highly engaging and my students genuinely look forward to our reading group time every day. Working at a city school in North Philadelphia, my school has limited access to high-quality resources. Therefore, we only have digital versions of this reading program. My students would benefit from having access to the hands-on components of Spire in order to make meaningful growth and increase engagement in their learning.
These magnetic boards come straight from the Spire program, and allow students to build words that follow targeted phonics patterns. Having hands-on magnet tiles to build these words with will allow for kinesthetic learning opportunities that digital learning simply doesn't provide.
