Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We can do anything - with your help! Our students come to us with varying abilities in reading and writing. More often than not, we find ourselves looking for new and fun ways to present phonics and sight word instruction to our students.
We never know who will walk into our door each year.
It's part of the challenge, but it's also the piece of our "family" we look forward to the most. Our students often come to us with Specific Learning Disabilities in Reading and Language, Autism, ADHD, Oppositional Defiance Disorder and Processing Disorders. This wide array of special needs keeps us on our toes and looking for new ways to present information in a way that "works" for our kiddos!
My Project
Hands-on materials are crucial for students with disabilities. As our financial resources at school keep dwindling, so do those materials. The resources in this project are interactive and student-centered. They can be implemented in large group, small group or one-on-one instruction. I know I would use the majority of these materials during guided reading and centers during Reader's Workshop.
I especially like that several of the games involve our ActivBoard software. This means that any time I have an extra 5 minutes we can use one of these games to review concepts previously taught - something that is crucial for our diverse group of students.
I would do anything for my students.
My biggest challenge each year is always "bridging the gap" so that my students are one step closer to that "lightbulb moment." I try my hardest to search for the best materials and bring them into our classroom. I believe these phonics games and materials will make a huge difference in our classroom. Please consider helping me fund this project and bringing a lot of phonetics fun to our room!
