My Students
My fourth grade students are awesome! They come from diverse neighborhoods. They are a blend of different races, ethnicities, income levels and interests. Over half my students are on the free and reduced lunch program.
They have a vast range of academic ability.
The pandemic has caused many challenges this year including an even greater deficit in reading. The one thing all my students have in common is their eagerness to learn and be challenged.
It is my job to try to meet each of their individual needs while also fostering a love of literature.
My Project
My students want to be better readers. It is hard to be in fourth grade and still not know how to read fluently. I have never had so many students lacking basic foundational skills in my classroom. It is not their fault and I believe it can still be fixed. Phonics instruction helps students break down and decode words. I need fun and interactive games for them to play. These games will engage them and help fill some of the holes left by the pandemic. I will use these games in small groups and centers.
