This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
After years of asking students to select popular books from curated bins based on a letter system, something that was extremely challenging and never really made sense, literacy specialists finally decided that it was time to do away with this system and approach reading in a way that makes more sense. Starting this year, our classroom library will consist of two sections. One section will consist of popular trade books which will mirror bookstores formats and include picture books, early readers and chapter books and the second will be based on phonics.
As we launch this new library format, with books organized by phonics features; we are in desperate need of books.
As it currently stands we have empty bins. I would love to give my students colorful and engaging books based on phonics features to not only support their reading skills, but also peek their interest.
