My Students
My second graders are an amazing group of students. They love coming to school each day. I teach at a large Title 1 elementary school where my students come from many diverse backgrounds. Although there are many differences among my students, they all share a love for learning. What makes me most proud is how well my students work together and support each other's learning.
I would describe my students as energetic, entertaining, and kind.
They are a wonderful group of kiddos to teach. My goal is for my students to always enjoy coming to school. I want my students to understand that the best way to learn is for them to be challenged.
My Project
My second-grade students have been working very hard on their reading skills and strategies this year. There are so many aspects of reading that my students need to practice. The two Lakeshore Learning kits I am requesting will provide games and activities for my students to practice phonics skills, to learn new vocabulary, to build fluency, to answer comprehension questions, to use correct verb tenses, to practice contractions, and to understand inflectional endings. My students will use these games and activities during Word Work each day, a part of our day during our literacy block.
Students have to enjoy reading and learning in order to become strong readers.
These learning kits and activities are engaging for students, so they will enjoy their time practicing more than if they were completing worksheets. I have similar activities available for math work and my students absolutely love them, I cannot wait to see how excited they will be to have the Lakeshore learning centers for word work.
Also, these learning kits will allow my students to work on the exact skills that they need to work on to succeed in reading. The variety of kits and activities will be perfect for differentiating the work. My classroom embraces personalized learning, therefore, these tools are essential.
